How I Stopped Worrying and Learned to Love Eberron
Draconic Prophecy
Fate. Kismet. Destiny. The idea that history is not completely under our control. Most religions on Eberron contain some form of affirmation or refuting of this concept. Dragons have embraced fate as the guiding principle and ultimate mystery in their culture. The Draconic Prophecy (or “the Prophecy” to the many who study it) is the driving force that saved and now dictates the actions of Argonnessen, the Conclave, the Chamber, and most dragons.
The Prophecy was found in the midst of the Age of Demons, as the forces of good struggled to fight the rakshasa rajahs. After many martial assaults, it became evident that the two children of Siberys, dragons and the couatl race were not strong enough. But two of the most powerful members of each race got together to solve the problem. Ourelonastrix and Hezcalipa knew that knowledge was key to defeat the demon lords.
What we call dragonmark were first examined during the Ages of Demons. At that point, the marks manifested as patterns of any scale, from the veins of a leaf to a mountain range. Ourelonastix used them as a divination tool, and Hezcalipa was able to narrow down which prophetic symbols could be tied to defeating the demons. During this narrowing, they came to the realization that the couatl people would have to be sacrificed to bind the demons.
